Lit checkout lanes
My girlfriend went to the new “eco” Fred Meyer on SE 39th and Hawthorne the other day. She noticed that the checkout lines no longer have the numbers that light up letting you know that the lane is open. Seems it’s too tacky these days. Plus, think of all the energy it saves! Yeah! About two hours later, while in Whole Foods on W. Burnside and 13th, I see 3 managers, or Team Leaders, in a huddle. “So the Fred Meyer on Hawthorne no longer has lit checkout lanes” said manager #1. “Either does Trader Joe’s” said manager #2. “We’re going to have to do something. I’m thinking that…”.
Too bad I couldn’t hear his solution. But I sure am glad this topic weighs so heavy on the minds of Portland’s citizens.
